Getting Started with Mazda Apple CarPlay

Thankfully, getting started with Mazda Apple CarPlay in your Mazda doesn't require rocket science; it's intuitive and easy. Simply connect your compatible iPhone device to your Mazda vehicle, and off you go!

Setup Instructions

Let's take a look at the quick and easy steps to get you set up.

First off, there are some basics, obviously you will need an iPhone 5 or above that is running the latest iOS. Siri must be enabled plus you will need an Apple Lightning to USB cable to make the connection to your Mazda Connect system.

Next, connect your iPhone to the USB port in the center stack or inside the center armrest using the USB cable. The Mazda Connect feature will then detect your iPhone, and if you're a first-time user, follow the on-screen prompts on your iPhone to enable Apple CarPlay by selecting "Allow."

This will then allow your Mazda to access the Apple CarPlay content on your iPhone without requiring you to unlock your iPhone first.

Apple CarPlay will then launch automatically, it's that simple and fuss free, so you can do life every time you get in your Mazda.

How to Use Mazda Apple CarPlay

Once connected, the quickest and easiest way to access Mazda Apple CarPlay on the Mazda Connect screen is to press and hold the "Home" button until the Apple CarPlay screen pops up or slide the Commander control to the right when on the Mazda Connect home screen and the Apple CarPlay icon is visible.

Navigating the Interface

Navigation of the interface is easily done by tilting, rotating or pressing the Commander knob to navigate through the screens, apps and menus. The Apple CarPlay feature uses a user interface that is similar to the home screen on your iPhone, which allows intuitive access to the phone, music, maps, messages, and more. 

For ultimate convenience, users can also rearrange and customize the apps displayed on the Apple CarPlay home screen just as you would on your iPhone's home screen.

Using Maps and Navigation

Accessing maps and navigation is as easy as pressing the Command Controller "NAV" button to quickly access the Apple Maps screen.

Making Calls and Sending Messages

Simply rotate the Commander control to highlight the Phone or Messages app icon and press the Commander control down to open the app. Rotating the Commander control allows you to choose between favorites, recent, contacts, keypad and voicemail.

Voice Commands and Siri

Siri replaces the Mazda Connect voice recognition system when you connect your iPhone to your Mazda. Siri is then used to access many of your iPhone's functions while driving, without having to pick up your iPhone. 

Mazda Models with Apple CarPlay

Every new Mazda model features Mazda Apple CarPlay as standard. For older Mazda models as early as 2014, installing Apple CarPlay is possible when equipped with Mazda Connect.
