Mazda Android Auto allows you to continue using all the apps on your compatible Android Smartphone for calls, messaging, music, and more while driving, using the Mazda Connect feature in your select Mazda vehicle, all without having to touch your phone.
Getting Started with Mazda Android Auto
Thankfully, Mazda's engineers have made this feature quick, easy and intuitive to use. Let's take a look at how to get you started.
Setup Instructions
Your first step is downloading Android Auto 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher if not already downloaded on your phone, search for and download it from the Google Play store.Â
Connect your phone to the USB port in the center stack or inside the center armrest with a compatible USB charging cable.
Agree to enable Android Auto by following the prompts on your phone's screen and on your vehicle's touchscreen. By granting the necessary permissions, you should be ready to go in a minute or two.
Your Android device must be paired via Bluetooth to use Mazda Android Auto, and after initial setup your phone should automatically connect allowing fuss free access to all compatible applications.Â

How to Use Android Auto
Once connected, there are two quick and easy ways to access Mazda Android Auto. First is from the Mazda Connect screen or the home button on the Command Controller until the Android Auto screen appears.Â
Navigating the Interface
Navigating the Mazda Connect interface is simply made by tilting, rotating or pressing the Commander knob to navigate through the screens, apps and menus.Â
The Android Auto's home screen features three distinct sections for information:Â
- Sidebar on the left of the screenÂ
- The App Launcher in the middleÂ
- An Adaptive Task Bar on the right of the screenÂ
These all display the most relevant content in an intuitive layout.
Using Maps and Navigation
The Google Maps screen automatically launches when your Android device is connected, and Android Auto is activated.
To access navigation apps from the App Launcher screen, rotate the Commander control until the desired map/navigation app is selected, then press the Commander control to launch the app.
Making Calls and Sending Messages
Making calls and sending messages with Mazda Android Auto is as simple as using your smartphone.Â
On the App Launcher view on the screen, select the Phone icon to access the app and select more options to see your favorites, call history, contacts, keypad and voicemail.
Music and Media
With Android Auto, users can access music through Google Play Music or any compatible third-party music and media apps.
Once launched, you can scroll through your music or audio choices by rotating the Commander control to select your desired song, artist, album or playlist.
Voice Commands and Google Assistant
Hands-free calling, selecting music, messages, and more is possible via Google Assistant.
Simply pressing the "Talk" button on the steering wheel activates Google Assistant for you to speak your desired command.
Mazda Models with Android Auto
All new Mazdas feature Android Auto as standard.
Owners of older Mazda models need not despair as Mazda is able to retroactively integrate Android Auto functionality to 2014 or newer Mazdas already equipped with Mazda Connect.
